  John A Carroll Crowding in Emergency Rooms kills. When you wait too long for a serious medical problem in an ER, it is dangerous for many reasons. This is what I was telling OSF's CEO Keith Steffen in 2001. Keith was quoted in the JS that the old ER was built to see 33,000 patients per year but was actually seeing 70,000 patients per year. Since then OSF has built the new 280 million dollar Milestone Project which includes a new ER.
